Many people ask, “Why do you own an iron frying pan?” I love mine. It is strong and useful in the kitchen. An iron frying pan is also called a cast iron skillet. It is made from iron. Here are simple reasons why I choose it every day.
It Lasts Forever
Cast iron pans are very strong. They do not break easy. My pan can last many years. Some people use pans from their grandparents. If you care for it well, it stays good forever. No need to buy new ones often.

It Holds Heat Well
The pan gets hot and stays hot. This is great for cooking meat. It makes a nice brown crust on steak or chicken. Food cooks even. No cold spots.

Natural Non-Stick Surface
When you season the pan, it becomes non-stick. Season means you rub oil and heat it. Food does not stick much. Eggs slide out easy. No bad chemicals like in some new pans.
Good for Health
Cooking in iron adds a little iron to food. Iron is good for your body. It helps carry oxygen in blood. This is helpful if you need more iron. Also, you can use less oil.
You Can Use It for Many Things
Use it on the stove or in the oven. Fry, bake, or sear. Make pancakes, pizza, or vegetables. It works on fire too, like camping.

Easy to Care For
Clean with hot water. Dry it fast. Add a little oil. No soap needed most times. It gets better with use.
The pan is heavy. That is the only bad part. But the good parts are more. It makes food taste great.
I own an iron frying pan because it is simple, strong, and makes cooking fun. Try one. You may love it too!
By day, I’m a Doctor of Clinical Psychology student (Psy.D.) at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine – basically learning how the brain works while drinking way too much coffee.
By night (and weekends, and lunch breaks…), I’m a total kitchen geek. I’m that person who gets excited over a new spatula, owns three different vegetable choppers “for science,” and has strong feelings about which nonstick pan actually stays nonstick.
